In the middle of a picturesque village square in one of those beautiful, picturesque French villages thirty kilometers from the finish line or somewhere in the midst of Burgundy fields or Provençal vineyards, deserted by God and little Pierke, but along that day's Tour route: all locations where Les Amis du Tour de France are happy to stop to do what they are very, very good at.
What might that be? Well, Les Amis du Tour de France, which is a synonym for ... Watching the race. Making fun. Cheering on racers. Drinking beer. Singing a little, sometimes even dancing, on the table or not. Les Amis du tour de France, they carry our Flemish cycling heritage, they show our DNA as a race supporter to the world, they express our love for cycling in the most authentic way.
Specifically, Les Amis du tour de France are heading to France where they will travel for three weeks in old Volkswagen vans and Eddy's Volvo in the wake of the peloton. Wherever they park their vans - each time along the route of the Tour stage of the day - an authentic, yet mobile, Flemish supporters' pub will unfold - bar stools, counter, Bicky Burger stall and a variety of our best Belgian beers included - which, supported by volunteers and led by leader Jo, no passer-by can pass without at least taking a look and, more than likely, ordering one.
And all under the motto: "l'Amour pour le course, c'est trop fort"!
