Il Pirata, a nickname he owes to the bandana and his large earring that were so characteristic of him. Pantani was one of the greatest talents of his generation. He was a true racer who made the difference uphill with his sharp attacks. He was the last rider to win the Tour and Giro in the same year. Unfortunately, he never got over a doping suspension, which meant that he could never get his career back on track, except for the Tour of 2000 in which he beat Armstrong on Mont Ventoux. In 2004 the charismatic Pantani unfortunately left much too early for the eternal velodrome. But we still give him a worthy salute.
